Time is fleeting, the end of term is fast approaching and I am panicking 😀
Happy not February! Honestly it’s a miracle I didn’t die this past month. I ate 2 month out of date food, went alone to meet distant relatives when I didn’t even know what they looked like and flew to England all by myself.
I also watched and completed The Umbrella Academy, and I’m still recovering. In-between all of that though I managed to read a whole lot.
I completed 8 books and DNF-ed 1. I also did really well at following my TBR!
The first book I completed this month was Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson &Ellen Hagan and it was amazing! This follows two best friends, Jasmine and Chelsea, as they create a Women’s Rights club at their school. This book tackles so many things, such as: fat shaming, racism, feminism, family members with cancer, sexual assault. Highly recommend!
I then picked up a random self help book up that I’d gotten off Netgalley. Just As You Are was a pretty boring read in my opinion but I skimmed through it and completing it helped boost my Netgalley rating.
I then read, and loved Shade by Mere Joyce. This follows Callum who attends a summer camp in Paris for people who can see ghosts. This in itself is a trope I love but each person see’s different kinds of ghosts: murdered spirits, spirits of the heartbroken, spirits of dogs, etc. It was such a cool twist and I need book 2 like now, so much so that when I couldn’t find any release date I messaged the author saying how much I loved the book and apparently book 2 should be coming out sometime this year.
The Quiet You Carry by Nikki Barthelmess was another ARC, I’ve done so well dwindling them down this month. This follows a girl who’s father doesn’t want her and she’s sent into foster care. Trigger Warning for suicide and sexual abuse in this story. This tackled such serious issues which made me emotional but it felt like something was missing from the story. Solid 3 stars though.
I actually DNF-ed a book this month and that was Dead School by by Laura Gia West.
I received this again by Netgalley and I just was not enjoying it. I think I’m going to start DNF-ing more books, especially ARCs and other Ebooks because why waste my time?
Picking up, and enjoying Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennet was a total surprise but I totally loved it and plan on reading Bennets other book Night Owls which I’ve had sitting on my shelf for years. It was a totally cute romance featuring hiking and star gazing.
Poetry is not my thing so If My Body Could Speak by Blythe Baird was going to be hit or miss but I flew through this collection of poems and loved it! They were all so hard hitting and great for a poetry noob like myself.
My reread of Six of Crows finally happened! It was actually the only physical book I read in February. I loved this book, how could I not? I swear I’ll be picking book 2 up soon.
And then finally, I managed to squeeze in You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn. This was a total surprise for me in how much I enjoyed it. It follows two young country singers who go on tour together and it was a great book with a lot more of an emotional plot then I was expecting. Trigger Warning for: suicide mentions, substance abuse.
So far in 2019 I am absololtuly crushing my reading. It probably means I should spend more time studying but …. oh well. I’m hoping this keeps up in March too.
Thanks for reading.
