Book adaptations I want but I’m scared for.

Hi, hey, hello and happy Tuesday 🙂

So, today is Tuesday and usually that means another week of Top 5 Tuesday however this weeks topic is all about books with creepy atmospheres and … I was struggling. Most of the books that came to mind I’d already mentioned in a recent Spooky Reading Recommendation post and I didn’t just want to repeat myself.

And so today, instead, I’m going to be chatting a little on my thoughts on some Book To Move Adaptations! Some of these are actually in development and some are just my wishful thinking. This post is 100% inspired by the video PolandbananaBOOKS did recently which you can watch here 🙂

Shadow & Bone

So this is the only adaption on this list that I know for sure is 100% happening. As most people know this much beloved book is being adapted by Netflix and I’m excited … but also scared.

I’m excited because I’m in constant need for new television content and what I’ve read of the Grisha universe so far I have loved, especially the characters. However I’m worried about the format of the show. This first season is said to encompass both the Shadow and Bone trilogy aswell as parts of the Six of Crow duology and I just don’t know how that’s going to mesh.

I’ve seen some theories that season 1 is going to focus mainly on Shadow and Bone but also maybe follow the rise of Kaz and Inej before the full Six of Crows plot which in my opinion makes sense, especially with what characters have been announced.

Talking about characters being announced. We have a cast! Actual humans who will be playing these characters!

I know none of these people whatsoever which I’m glad about. I’m glad we’re getting new acting blood. I saw a lot of people excited about The Darkling who’s gonna be played by the guy at the front in the grey shirt, Ben Barnes. Apparently he was a lot of peoples big crush back in the Narnia days.

So yes. I’m excited about this. I’m scared. I think the cast looks great.

Red, White and Royal Blue.

This could make a great show and I am here for it! The rights have already been bought, I believe by Amazon, but sadly it’s not something to get too excited about because it still might not happen.

What with the whole premise of prince and presidents son falling in love plus the added bonus of these unique and incredibly interesting characters I think it could be a big hit.

I do worry about this as well though, because I worry about everything and I loved this book so much I want any adaptation to live up to it’s full potential. I think this could quite easily turn out a little cheesy an I do not want that because the book itself is so funny and witty.

Basically what I’m saying is they should get Casey McQuiston involved as much as possible especially when it comes to the dialogue of which she is queen.

City of Ghosts

The CW have bought the rights to this series and not only that but the main character Cassie is getting aged up to be in her late teens/early twenties which I think is great!

I personally don’t mind the book series being middle grade but I know a lot of people wanted it to be darker and more mature so with aging up the characters for the sure it’s basically the best of both worlds.

Also I feel like we’re due another ghost show what with Ghost Whisperer being a thing of ancient times and Supernatural coming to an end. I have no worries or fears for this adaptation, I’m really looking forward to it and I hope it happens.

Ok now I’m gonna talk about a series that isn’t up to be adapted but maybe one day could be and I’m going to talk about why I maybe don’t want that to happen as much as I say I do …

All For the Game

This is one of my all time favourite series. Its so weird and random and amazing with complex characters. Imagining iconic scenes and monologues like “you’re a pipe dream” or all the times Neil pops off, being real things I can watch over and over makes me so happy and it would be such a good show and yet … I don’t want it???

I feel so protective over this series and as much as I want more people to love it and as much as I want it to get the recognition I think it deserves I want to keep it to myself and to the following that it already has.

I also think there’s a lot of way they could mess this series up. These characters aren’t exactly “good guys”. They’re complex with different not always entirely pure motivations and I just don’t think tv handles that all that well, they want the views and don’t always do their characters justice, not even beginning to talk about how they’d tackle these characters traumablack-and-white-flowers-tumblr-transparent-12

So there we have my thoughts on some adaptations. I’m running low on shows to watch so these show producers need to hurry up and get things moving because I need new ways to procrastinate.

Has anyone else heard any news about upcoming adaptations? Is anyone else excited about what I’ve mentioned above? Thanks for reading 🙂

  1. I’m also really unsure about the Shadow and Bone adaptation. I just have no idea how they are going to interweave the two storylines. I’m not getting myself exited about it until it comes out. I just don’t want to be disappointed. 🤔 Great post!

    1. Yeah it just seems like a lot of material to do well and to develop properly and I think I saw somewhere it’s not even going to be many episodes. Maybe around 10? Idk. I’m hopeful and optomistic but ready to be sad. Thnk you 🙂

  2. I’m also super unsure about Shadow and Bone. I LOVE LOVE this book series and I don’t want to see it get ruined because they wanted to include too much into one season. I feel a bit more assured because it’s a Netflix production but still…

Ben Barnes is hot but I just can’t imagine him acting remotely evil exactly because of his Narnia days XD but overall I like the cast.
