New to me authors 2019

Hi, hey, hello and welcome to my blog 🙂

Its officially 5 days to Christmas and I’m in panic mode because I haven’t gotten any presents besides for Secrete Santa. I’m a mess and a disasters.

Todays post is in no way Christmas related because I don’t need the stress, instead I’m going to be talking about a few new to me authors that I read this past year.

Jenn Bennett

I haven’t stopped raving about Jenn Bennet since I read her book Starry Eyes at the start of the year and for good reason. I thought her books, of which I’ve so far read 2 (Starry Eyes and Night Owl) were lots of fun and they made me enjoy and be more open to reading ya contemporary with romances, something I previously wasn’t totally crazy for.

On my shelf I have her other 2 contemporary releases (Alex Approximately and Serious Moonlight) which I hope to get to in 2020 and if I enjoy those I plan on picking up and trying her new historical fantasy novel.

Adam Silvera

I finally read an Adam Silvera book this year, something I’ve been meaning to do for such a long time as his books are wildly popular within the bookish community, unfortunately I wasnt a huge fan.

I read History is All You Left Me and I just wasn’t interested in the characters or the plot and I ended up really disappointed by what I’d read. I don’t know if I want to pick up any more of his books. Nothing he’s already published has caught my attention and there’s so many other books and authors I want to try.

Casey McQuiston

Red, White & Royal Blue was, I believe, her debut novel so she was a new author for many people this year and talk about coming out with a bang. RWRB has been the favourite of so many this past year, for good reason.

I loved the writing style of her debut novel, she’s definitely so talented and I am incredibly excited for her next release which is said to be coming out in 2021. Its a bit longer of a wait then I would like but after just one book I am trash for her.

Rainbow Rowell

Another popular author I can finaly tick of my list … and another I didn’t really like :l

I read Fangirl this past year and considering how much hype there is around this book I was surely disappointed. I couldn’t connect with the plot or the characters and there were times when I really didn’t want to read.

I do plan on reading the Simon Snow trilogy at some point, probably closer to the release of the third book but I’m not interested in any of her other works sadly.

Alice Oseman

I purposefully held off from writing this post as a motivation to read Solitaire so I could include Oseman on this list and finally I did!

I’m not sure how I feel about Oseman yet as an author. Solitaire wasn’t my favourite thing in the world but I appreciated what she was trying and I am still wanting to read some of her other releases, especially Loveless.

So those are some authors I’m happy to have read this year even if one or two left me disappointed. I’m hoping to read some more popular authors in 2020 and see how I feel about those, as well as continuing to read new books by authors I already love.

I’m gonna go freak out about the fact that I need to go shopping 🙂 Ah. The holidays. So much fun. Thanks for reading!
