Above & Beyond Expectations // Top 5 Tuesday

aaaa

Hi, hey, hello and happy Tuesday 🙂

I skipped last weeks top 5 Tuesday because I’m terrible at time management but I’m back this week and I have no fancy pancy introduction because it’s nearly midnight and I still have homework to do for tomorrow so let’s just jump right in to books that exceeded my expectations!

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shannah @ Bionic Book Worm

Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I loved The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, it’s genuinely one of my favourite series and it’s one of the series that got me into reading but I was hesitant going into this book.

I knew I was going to like it but it took me by surprise just how much I liked it. I’m from East Yorkshire and yet this book had me reading in a southern belle like accent as I flew through this book. I haven’t picked up the sequel and I don’t know if I’m going to but I did really enjoy this more then I was expecting.

The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Stevens

Have I talked about this book yet this year? No. And so here it is.

I had absolutely 0 expectations going into this book. It was completely a cover buy as I hadn’t heard anyone talk about it and I only had a vague idea of the plot but so far I’ve re-read this multiple times and take any and every chance to recommend it.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

I mean all people do is talk about how good this book and this series is and yet my enjoyment of this book took me completely by surprise. I loved Mia and her shadow cat. This book was the perfect excuse to hide from my family over the holidays and I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel.

These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling

Another case of me having no expectations whatsoever but having an absolute blast. This is gay elemental witch dealing with finding a blood sacrifice at a party while aslo dealing with her ex-girlfriend and harbouring a major crush on the new cute red head a it’s best.

Go read it!

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

My expectations for this were high, I’d been highly anticipating it for nearly 2 years, and yet somehow this surpassed even my wildest dreams

I feel like Stiefvater is the type of person to think “this sounds crazy … I’m gonna do it” when it comes to her plots and I respect that so much. I genuinely do not know how I’m supposed to survive this next 12 months without the sequel in my hands.

So those are 5 books that were better then predicted. I genuinely love all the books mentioned on this list and would definitely recommend them.

I’d love to know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought, thanks for reading 🙂

  1. I got Nevernight from my secret santa and it makes me glad to see it in your list. I want to read it but i’m also afraid it’s too hyped like Six of Crows was for me.
