April Wrap Up

Helloooo 🙂

I don’t know how but it’s that time again where I talk all about the books I read this month. I had a pretty lofty TBR for April and I read approximately two of those books.

My reading was pretty all over the place this month and in terms of quantity but sadly it was pretty “meh” in terms of quality. Because of how random the books are I’ve split them into groups to try and bring some order to this wrap up.

The “meh” books.

The first book I read this month was Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett and it was disappointing. I did a whole review for it but in short: I love Jenn Bennett but I didn’t love this book. It liked the representation: a hard of hearing boy with Japanese heritage and a girl with narcolepsy, but I didn’t care much about the romance. There wasn’t much chemistry between the characters, Birdie and Daniel, at least compared to other Bennett books, and they felt kind of cringey at times.

I was in the mood for some cheesy “oh my god I have superpowers” and “oh my god I’m the most powerful witch to ever exist” read and so I read The Lost Witch by Chandelle LaVaun. . I was hoping for a guilty pleasure read but I basically skim read this. It just wasn’t what I wanted and I barely remember anything that happened (besides lots of characters with very modern American names).

The ARCs

I managed to get to two ARCs this month and my Netgalley Approval is finally up to 80% for maybe the first time ever (?). The fist book I read was Off Script by Kate Watson which is a retelling of Emma with a Hollywood twist. I’ve never read Emma but I did enjoy this book. My favourite thing was the main character. I really liked her character growth and how she learnt and matured throughout the story.

And the other ARC I read was The Anti-Virginity Pact by Katie Wismer and this book had potential for the first 50% but then it really ramped up the drama for what I felt like was no reason.

I have a combined mini review of both of these coming next week for a more in-depth rant review.

The Re-reads

I re-read four books this month. This is a bit of an “oops” situation because I’m trying to widdle down my physical TBR but it was a pretty rough start to the month so I didn’t mind to much.

The first book I reread was Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I was lucky enough to get an ARC last year and I’ve wanted to re-read it ever since so I did. I can’t believe I read this this month. It feels like forever ago. I enjoyed this just as much the second time around except I somehow fell in love with the characters even more. Especially Nora. (Her and June are totally dating)

Then I re-read The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakovic as part of the Stay Home Reading Rush to begin my yearly re-read of the whole trilogy. I enjoyed this. Of course I did its part of my favourite series.

And my final re-reads were Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, I read this in Spanish for the Stay Home Reading Rush because I lost my English edition, and Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters. I’ve decided I’m going to slowly read through all the series because I miss this world and these characters. I had a lot of fun reading both of these and I’m looking forward to continuing on.

Midnight Sun

I have been meaning to read Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer for a while now and with everything going on I finally had the time to do so and make a whole post about it which you can read Here 🙂 This was fun. I laughed a lot and I do kind of wish it was a real thing.

The Graphic Novels

After having a bunch of graphic novels on my shelf forever I finally read some this month. I get weird sometimes about starting a new book so close to the end of the month but I did want something to do so first I read: Gotham Academy by Becky Cloonan, Brenadn Fletcher and Karl Kerschl. I … liked this but I found it a bit boring at times. My favourite thing was Maps, she was a sweetie and I loved her.

And the second one I read was Isn’t It Bromantic by Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness. This was a lot of fun. It’s a Spiderman and Deadpool crossover and now I’m in the mood to rewatch their respective movies.

And I’m currently reading:

I have seen Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe all over my Goodreads recently and I finally caved and started reading it and oh my god it’s so good. This is a beautiful webcomic which you can read on WEBTOON following Hades and Persephone.

I am loving this! I would like this whole thing tattooed on my body because it’s gorgeous. The colours! The designs! Ugh everything. I love it and I can’t wait to continue reading it.

And there we go. I read 10+ books this month which I’m so happy about. I’m actually 10 books away from completing my Goodreads challenge which is crazy.

I am hoping to read just as many books in May but I’m hoping I enjoy them a lot more. I’d love to know what you’ve been reading this month. Thanks for reading and stay safe!

Elli xx
