Hello and happy Tuesday 🙂 So I’m running on three hours sleep right now so I apologise in advance. Saying that though I did survive a kind of important exam earlier this morning so I’m sure this will be a walk in the park in comparison with that.
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is top 5 books to read this summer. I can’t believe its summer already. God this year is so dodgy but here’s what I’m recommending to read while we’re all sunbathing in face masks 🙂
Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
I read this just a couple of weeks back and I’m already considering re-reading it. This book is great for summer because it’s set in a surfing coastal town during the summer and it has a really cute romance and fun plot. Really all of Bennetts books are good for summer but most definitely this one.
Royals Duology by Rachel Hawkins
Literally the only reason I’m recommending these is because I read both of these last summer and they were super fun and easy to read. Prince Charming is my personal favourite of the two. This book follows Daisy who’s big sister is marrying into the Scottish royal family. Daisy is such a fun character and the main reason I loved this. I liked the romance more in Her Royal Highness. This book follows Millie who gets a scholarship to a Scottish boarding school where she ends up rooming with Princess Flora and they fall for each other.
Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I think crime/mystery novels are great for summer and again this is one I read last year and really loved. This follows Sawyer who agrees to become a debutant in exchange for lots of money off her gran and also as a way to find out who her dad is. I have an East Yorkshire accent that my friends make fun of constantly and yet the voice in my head was reading this in a southern accent. It was good and I’m actually planning on reading the sequel in the next couple of months.
Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Claire & Wesley Chu
Sometimes you just need to revisit an old set of characters and fantasy world to have a good time. I’m saying this under the implication that most people have read the Mortal Instruments series, if you haven’t then just keep reading my friend.
I like all the Shadowhunter books but there’s just sooo many and they’re just sooo long and to be honest the characters can be annoying sometimes and I don’t always have the patience to deal with that (@ Jace and Clary) but when I read this last summer it was so refreshing. I got to read about some of my favourite characters having a fun adventure packed trip around Europe without the anxiety someone was going to die. A win-win.
The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman
I feel like I’ve been talking about this for a while now but I’m not even sorry. I’m dying to read Deck of Omens, it’s going to be one of the first books I read in July.
This series is fun and really reminiscent of some old school teen tv shows that I used to spend my summer binge watching while my mum complained I never went outside.
So those are five books I recommend reading this summer. I feel like this summer is going to be a weird one. I mean I hope not but this whole year has been a weird one. Whatever you read this summer I hope you enjoy.
Thanks for reading and stay safe 🙂
Little White Lies is one that I want to read for months now!
