Helloo 🙂 Back in my May TBR I said I was going to “make May my bitch” and I’m happy to report that I more then followed through on that statement. I got some motivation back! I started being productive! And in the end I got a whole bunch of school work done and completed 10 books!!!
I set myself a “challenge” this month just to try and bring a bit more fun to reading and stop me getting so overwhelmed. The challenge was to read every colour of the rainbow, so a red book, a yellow book and so on and so on … and I did just that. It was actually a lot of fun and I’ll probably do it again in the future. This is probably gonna be long so I’m just going to start wrapping things up.
The Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith was the first book I read in May and I actually read this in one day. My book report was due so I spent all of May 1st reading this and it wasn’t a fun time. If you don’t know then the plot of this book is basically “man has clearly overstayed his welcome so he resorts to murder and identity theft to avoid an awkward situation”. I was happy to finish this and even happier with the “well done” I got off my otherwise stone faced teacher.⭐⭐
Next up I read Archenemies by Marissa Meyer and I considered giving this 5 stars just because I loved Adrian and Nova. I liked this sequel. I have a lot of theories, lots of ideas but in reality I really don’t know where this is going. I am nervous about the final book because I’ve heard it’s kind of disappointing but I want to get to it by the end of the year. (If Nova & Adrian aren’t endgame I will riot). ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Yes No Maybe So by Aisha Saeed & Becky Albertalli was my third read of the year and it was ok. Nothing amazing. I enjoyed the fact that this was a romance between a muslim and a jewish main character with a political centric plot but other then that it fell pretty flat. The highlight of the book was Jamie’s grandma asking “Travis Scott. Isn’t he that Stormi’s dad?” ⭐⭐⭐
I’ve been reading the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan over the last two months and in May I read The Titans Curse aka the book where we’re introduced to Nico di Angelo. I loved my re-read of this and I was actually quite surprised at how much I’d forgotten.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
At the minute I’m trying to read one ARC a month, at the very least, and so this month I read Leo Loves Aries by Anyta Sunday. This was a very backlist ARC from when I requested a bunch of stuff and then got stuck in a slump but this was good. I found this to be quite funny. Basically the main character Theo wants to set up his roommate with his twin sister but ends up falling in love with him instead despite how much he tries to deny it to himself.⭐⭐⭐
The most amazing thing ever happened in May. The Percy Jackson Disney+ show was announced!!! I genuinely couldn’t stop thinking about this so I picked up The Battle of the Labyrinth to celebrate! Again, I loved this. Of course I loved this. I actually also read The Sword of Hades which is a novella set between the fourth and final book and that was fun too.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was nervous to read Alex Approximately by Jenn Bennett after my no so good experience reading Serious Moonlight in April but I LOVED this book. It was a fun, easy read with the right amount of drama and a swoony but oh so shippable romance. With me reading this though I’m officially out of unreleased Bennett books to read.⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
I read With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo in THREE HOURS!!! I started reading it at midnight and I’d finished it by 3am. This book was really, really good. It focused heavily on Emoni’s life which was super interesting and heart-warming to read. I loved reading about her development and journey and maybe it was because I was so tired but I actually teared up reading the final chapter.⭐⭐⭐⭐
Finally I finished off the months with some Shadowhunters. I finished my re-read of The Infernal Devices which I started back in ??? March. I didn’t cry as much reading Clockwork Princess this time around which is good but it still hit me in the feels. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
And then I read Chain of Gold the first book in The Last Hours trilogy. I liked this so much more then I was expecting to. The fact that this features London going into quarentine is hilarious to me. I’ve fallen in love with all the new characters but my brain just can’t accept that Will Herondale is a middle aged and graying father. It’s not clicking but I’m so excited for the sequel. Also nervous cause I know Cassandra Clare is going to try and break my heart.⭐⭐⭐⭐
So there we go those are all the books I read in May. There’s only 1 book that was on my TBR that I didn’t get to and that Lore Olympus, a web comic that I was still reading through the month.
I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books and what you’ve been reading recently. Thank you for reading and stay safe!🖤
