Hello and howdy.
Today I am going to be talking about all the contemporary novels currently sitting un-read of my shelf because sometimes you’ve just got to name and shame yourself into action.
Contemporary books haven’t always been my favourite genre especially romance heavy contemporaries however in the past two years I’ve definitely been enjoying them more and more and I want to keep that going.
What I Lost by Alexandra Ballard. Every summer I say “I’m going to read this” and every year I never do. This book, I believe, follows a girl with an eating disorder which is something I want to read and learn more about but I still haven’t gotten around to it because I. Am. Trash 🙂
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi. I’ve been eyeing this on my shelf recently and I think I’m going to pick it up soon but this book is set in 2002, a year after the 9/11 attacks and follows Shirin, a muslim girl who’s tired of being stereotyped.
Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch. I was meant to be going to Italy back in March and that’s the whole reason I got this book as its set in Italy by then Corona hit, my trip was cancelled and reading it felt like rubbing salt in the wound.
Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds. This is a recent purchase and I’m really excited about it. It seems like it’s going to be a sweet romance and the fact that it has time travel aspects is even better
Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake. I keep forgetting I have this book because it’s on a different shelf in a place I can’t see so every time I see it I’m pleasantly surprised. This book follows a girl whose best friend accuses her twin brother of rape. It has really good reviews so I have high hopes.
Sadie by Courtney Summers. I started reading this just before Christmas but I began feeling slumpy so I temporarily DNF-ed it but I am still interested in picking this up again at some point.
I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski. Another case of me temporarily DNF-ing a book this time because I was reading it when my Italy trip was cancelled and like with the other travel related novel it was too much like rubbing salt in a wound. What I read of this book was really good though.
Anna & the French Kiss + Lola & the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Wow 3 for 3 on the DNFs. I randomly picked Anna up last year or the year before and couldn’t fully get into it. I am liking romance heavy books more now then I used to though so I’m going to give this book another chance.
Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate. I was really excited about this book when I got it but then time passed and I never picked it up so I really need to get on this. I’m kind of hazy on the description for this book but I think it revolves around 7 high school students and their secretes getting out or something. Unclear.
So those are all my current un-read contemporaries that are sitting on my shelves. I’m going to Uni next year and obviously I can’t take all my books back with me so now is the time for me to get cracking and get reading!
If you’ve read any of these books I’d love to know what you thought!! Which ones should I try and make a priority first?? Thanks for reading and stay safe.
