5 books I need to read before the end of the year!

Howdy guys, gals and my nonbinary pals.

Question of the day: How do I make my dog like me again? The happiest dog on the world is ignoring me all because I took him to get his yearly rabies shot yesterday.

You make eye contact with my dog and he smiles and yet today I can’t even get a tail wag😭

Anyways, moving on from the fact that my dog hates me … today I’m going to be talking all about 5 books I want to read before the end of the year (but probably won’t).

As it stands now, I’m really happy with my reading for this year. It’s only August and yet I’ve read 75 books, surpassing my original goal of 40 books by a landslide. While I’m not officially changing my goal there is part of me that’s hoping I reach the big 100 but I’m not going to put any pressure on myself.

The Wicked Fox by Kat Cho

I want to read this book for a number of reasons. The first being that I want to make it a priority to read more books by authors of colour including Asian authors. The second is that I’ve heard a lot about this book; some love it while others dislike it and I’m looking forward to see where I stand on it. Hopefully I fall more towards the love side of the spectrum.

As far as plot goes I don’t know much. I believe it’s about a girl who has to choose between eating the soul of the boy she loves or aging incredibly fast and dying.

Is that right? Am I even kind of close? I don’t know but I’ve heard this feels like an old school, feel good YA novel so I’m looking forward to picking it up.

Loveless by Alice Oseman

Not going to lie. I’m scared to read this book. It’s gonna make me feel things and I’m scared of emotions. But I’m gonna do it. I swear.

This book follows Georgia as she begins university and explores the possibility that she is asexual. I also know there’s a lot of Scooby-Doo related content throughout this. I don’t know why or how I know that but yeahh …

Since it’s release I’ve seen nothing but great reviews and so I’m excited but also terrified to pick this up. Hopefully though I’ll have this read in the next couple of weeks before school starts but I’m making no promises.

The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White

I’m obsessed with this cover! It’s so pretty!!

I feel like this is going to be a really great read for the autumn time. I’m not sure if it’s the cover or the fantastical elements of this King Arthur retelling that are giving off autumn vibes but that’s the reason I haven’t picked it up yet.

Again I have no clue on what this book is about. Infact I don’t know anything about this book besides the fact it’s some sort of King Arthur related or inspired novel which is fine by me.

A Girls Guide to Murder by

I actually have no solid reason for this book being on this list. I just keep seeing it sitting on my shelf and I’m like “hmm yeah I think I’m gonna pick that up soon” and so here it is.

As is becoming habit I don’t know much about the plot of this book. I know there’s a girl and I know there’s a murder. More specifically there’s a girl who investigates a murder as part of a school project. Something along those lines. I’ll find out the nitty-gritty stuff when I get around to reading it.

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas

Ugh. Ok. So. Still haven’t finished the series. Still need to rectify this.

There are many reasons why I want to read this fifth book and carry on with this series:

  • I’ve invested a lot of time, money and concentration into this series.
  • I really like Celeana and want to see how her story ends.
  • I don’t want to leave this series unfinished. For once in my life I want to follow through and finish something.
  • I actually do enjoy my time reading these books, something I always seem to forget before picking up the sequels.

There are also many reasons I keep putting off reading this fifth book:

  • This book be thicc
  • I’m gonna need a re-cap of Queen of Shadows before reading and I’ve been too lazy to look yet.
  • I’m scared of the infamous scene *cough* velvet wrapped steel *cough*. I can’t decide if I want to experience this or not. Will it be a laugh or will it just be cringey af??
  • Finishing this means reading the next book which is a stupid reason that even I don’t understand.

So yes. Much to unpack there. We’ll see if I follow through on my plans. I doubt it. Words of encouragement in the comments below would be much appreciated.

And there we have it. 5 books. 4 months.

Theoretically that should be a walk in the park. But unfortunately I know myself and I know the likelihood of me following through is low. But a girl can dream.

What books are you hoping to finish before 2021 rolls around? Have you read any of these books? I’d love to know 🙂 Thanks so much for reading and stay safe!!

  1. “Loveless” and “The Wicked Fox” have been on my radar too. They both sound really interesting and I hope that sooner or later I’ll read them. “Empire of Storms” is really great and you should definitely continue with the series! ❤ It's one of the best out there! Also I'm sure once your dog feels a little bit better he'll come cuddle you. *lol* He just needs time. XD
