Small Towns – #5OnMyTBR

Hi and howdy.

I am back this week with another round of #5OnMyTBR. I skipped a couple of weeks because I had no time to make a list of decent answers but I’m really excited with todays list of books all about small towns. This was actually quite hard to put together though.

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @Local Bee Hunter’s Nook (me!) and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills

I’ve been very interested in reading something by Emma Mills recently. First of all, her covers are all super cute and I feel like her plots sound cute too.

This book in particular follows a girl called Sophie whose small town school marching band is selected to march in the Rose Parade and Sophie is in charge of getting them to L.A. Her plan to get them there includes convincing the towns famous country singer, Megan Pleasant, to go back home and headline a fundraiser.

The only problem is that Megan has publicly sworn to never return home.

One of Us is Next by Karen M. McManus

Its become a tradition, of sorts, that I go to England in the new year and my dad takes me to Waterstones to buy a whole bunch of books and for the past two years I’ve bought One of Us is Lying and then the next year I bought Two Can Keep a Secrete.

This year I was meant to go to England for my little brothers 9th birthday, see my family for the first time in a year and then buy One of Us is Next in person. Of course none of that happened but I haven’t got this book yet because I’m so set on keeping with this tradition.

This book is a sequel/companion (?) to One of Us is Lying and is set in the same town of Belview. Hence why it’s on this list.

Ninth House Sequel by Leigh Bardugo

I was having trouble when I was coming up this list so I don’t know if it counts but for the sake of todays post lets say it counts.

Ninth House is set at Yale University and it’s surrounding town. It. Counts. If you somehow haven’t heard about this book it follows Alex Stern who is offered a place at Yale University in exchange for keeping an eye on the university’s secrete societies.

This book is dark and not for everybody but I personally really liked the murder mystery and the creepy secrete society aspects. I am so excited for the sequel whenever it comes out.

Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw

I read Wicked Deep last year, I think it was, and really enjoyed it. I thought it had a really great atmosphere to it and beautiful writing but still haven’t picked up Ernshaws sophomore novel because I’m terrible.

Winterwood is set in the town of Fir Haven and its surrounding magical and haunted woods. This book follows a girl called Nora who is rumoured to be a witch and the only one who knows the truth. Her special connection to the woods leads her to Oliver, the boy who disappeared weeks ago.

I don’t know more then that. I’m was hooked at the words “haunted woods”.

And so there we go. 4 books on my TBR set in small town. If you have any recommendations I’d love to hear them, especially if it’s a paranormal book set in a small town.

Thanks so much for reading, if you’ve read any of these books let me know what you think.

  1. Aww I’m so sorry to hear you couldn’t continue your tradition. Well, 2020 was quite a different year than we all expected. I hope next year you’ll be able to buy “One of Us is Next” in England! I’ll cross my fingers for you!
