Hi. Hello. I want to runaway. Not permanently, but I’m definitely in the mood to pack my bags, hop on a plane and go exploring for a few weeks. Unfortunately there’s still a pandemic going on.
I’m really lucky to live in a Spanish coastal town with the bench a five minute walk away so I’m not missing out on a sunny holiday. But I’ve got the travel bug and, since I can’t go anywhere, I’m going to have to read about it instead.
Places I want to go:
I was meant to go to Italy last year on a school trip, right around the time when Italy went into full country lockdown. Literally the weekend before! I can’t remember the exact place’s we were going to go. I’m pretty sure it was the major cities (Florence, Milan) and I was really excited.
Obviously the trip was cancelled. My class went to Portugal instead but I decided to get a refund and spend the week chilling at home instead. I still really want to go to Italy someday though.
If I say I want to go to this country just because it looks really pretty will you judge me? I really don’t know much about the country but I feel like I’d have a great time going for a weekend trip and just going exploring.
I want to go for the ghosts and the castles and the ghosts in the castles.
In another life I live in Australia. My family was thissss close to getting green-cards to move there before my mum got cold-feet and told my dad he had to pick a country a little closer to family back in England. At 8 years old I had my whole Australian life planned out though. I was gonna be a cool surfer chick. Nowadays I want to go to Australia, specifically to go to Australia Zoo. Yes these are valid reasons to travel to a foreign country.
I really, really want to go to the Louvre. Despite my burning hatred for the art-history class I’m taking this year, I do like the subject and I’d face the masses to go to the famous gallery. I also want to go to the Catacombs.
It’s the ghosts again. Every time I’ve seen this city on TV or described in books it seems like the most lively and energetic place ever. I would totally buy into the tourist trap ghost tours!
Books I Want to Read:
I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski
I started reading this last year but when my Italy trip was cancelled, I put it back on my shelf because it was like salt in the wound.
From what I remember this book follows Sydney and Leela on their trip around Europe. When they run into Leela’s cheating ex-boyfriend and his friend, the trip goes sideways.
Unrelated note: this title always makes me think of the song “I see London, I see France, I see your underpants”.
Love & Luck + Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch
I read the first book in this companion trilogy earlier this year, and while it wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever read, I did have a lot of fun with it.
Love & Luck is set in Ireland, while the newest release, Love & Olives, is set in Greece.
I’m hoping to have just as much fun with the two sequels as I did with the first.
A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namey
Despite this book being set in my home-country, therefor defeating the purpose of wanting to read books about countries I want to travel to, I’m still counting this book because it deals with somebody else travelling.
This follows a girl who goes to stay with relatives in England for a bit and meet’s a cute boy. Sometimes this is exactly the type of book I want and need in my life!
Bridge of Souls by Victoria Schwab.
This is the third and maybe the final book in Schwab’s series about a girl who can see ghosts. In this series we see her travel to various cities with her ghost hunter parents for their new tv series.
I’ve really enjoyed the other two books and how the travelling to these countries played into the story and with New Orleans being the backdrop for this third story, I’m eager to read it.
So those are the places I want to go and the books I’ll read in the mean time. I’d love to know if anybody else is already planning out the post-pandemic trips.
Hopefully by the summer I’ll have my driving license so I can maybe explore some more of the cities near me. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for reading :))
