Blog, book haul

arcs I wasn’t expecting to be accepted for + books I forgot to haul :))

I swear to God my memory is getting worse. I literally walked in to the bathroom the other day, forgot why I was there only to get to the kitchen and remember I needed the loo. Now today I go scrolling through my drafts (of which there’s way too many) and come across a book-haul I was in the middle of writing and totally forgot about.

Maybe the fact that I was dropped on my head a few times as a kid is finally catching up to me. Oh well.

Today I’m going to be talking about those books that I got a while ago as well as some of the recent additions to my ARC shelf that I was very pleasantly surprised to be accepted for 😊

Exciting ARCs I wasn’t expecting …

First of all, did anybody else know that NetGalley has a whole ass app now! I got the email about an update and I was like “whatt???” and of course downloaded it straight away so now I have certain arcs for when I’m out and about.

Flash Fire by T.J Klune

Last year I read The Extraordinaries by T.J Klune, a book that perfectly mixes superheroes, gen-z humour and fanfiction of all things, and I had so much fun! I had no idea there was going to be a sequel, it seemed like a one and done story but I’m thrilled that this is a thing!! I’m excited to see Nick and his friend group again and I’m hoping I have just as good a time this time around.

If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales & Cale Dietrich

I haven’t read anything by Sophie Gonzales yet, despite seeing her books all over the place, and I didn’t love the one book of Cale’s Dietrich that I read but I am really looking forward to this book.

It’s about two members of a popular band that start dating but have to keep it on the down low. I started seeing it all over Goodreads and then when I checked in to Netgalley and it was right there I requested it straight away and was accepted instantly.

Never Saw You Coming by Erin Hahn

Just like with the last book I saw this, gasped, requested it and was instantly accepted! Twice in one night!! I was the most thrilled about getting an ARC of this book because it’s a new release from my favourite author.

I’ve read both of Hahn’s books so far and loved them both with my entire soul. As far as I’m aware Never Saw You coming actually follows a side-character from her sophomore book, More Than Maybe. One of the aspects of these books that I love is the music elements and I don’t think this one is going to focus on that as much but I’m so incredibly excited!!

Books I bought ages ago but haven’t read:

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell

This book is going to make me cry isn’t it? The bright colour does not match the insides as this book is about a women as she reflects on the relationship she had with a teacher when she was a teenager. Something along those line, I don’t want to know too much about this book before diving in.

I’m not sure when I’m going to get to this one. It’s a book I really do want to read but am going to need to be in the right headspace for. When that will be, I don’t know but. I have put it on the stack of books I want my mum to read though so she might read it before me.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Despite it being on two TBRs I still haven’t read the second book in the Brown Sisters trilogy. It’s opened to the prologue on my Kindle right now though. There’s every chance I at least start it before the end of the month.

I don’t know why I’m so hesitant to pick this up. I loved Chloe Brown, I want to continue on with the series. It makes no sense. Please cross your fingers that I get my ass in gear and read this soon!!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This book right here is why I shouldn’t be aloud to go e-book shopping at midnight. Sure, I want to read some old “classic” YA and I have expressed interest in trying the Lux series but why did I actually buy it? The answer is that it was 99 cents.

Books I bought ages ago and have already read:

Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare

This cover is literal chefs kisses. It’s so ridiculously pretty. I’m holding out hope that James is on the third cover, long hair and flying insects and all.

I started propping this book up on my shelves so I could see it while I was studying for my final exams as a sort of reminder that “survive and you can read me!” type thing.

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

Still can’t believe I’ve finally finished this trilogy and watched the first season of the show!!

How to Fail at Flirting by Denise Williams

This was 100% an impulse buy. I saw it all over. The price was good. I’m so glad I did because it ended up being a hell of a lot of fun and I’m still on my mission to read more adult romances.

Ok. I have to go study now. I’d much rather continue talking about all the sweet sweet books I got recently, but instead the Spanish restoration and confiscation is calling my name 😪 Thanks for reading.

  1. I got an ARC of “If This Gets Out” too and I’m sooo ready to read this book!! XD As always I just need to finish other books first. *lol* “My Dark Vanessa” is on my TBR as well but I think I need to be in the right head space to read it. And YAY for finishing “The Grisha Trilogy”!!! Did you like it? And how was the show? I’m planning to watch it on the weekend when I finally have time.

    1. If This Get’s Out looks like it’s going to be a fun one. My Dark Vanessa … not so much lol. We’ll have to get our tissues at the ready.
I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy. It’s not the best thing I’ve ever read, some plot points felt repetitive, but I loved the characters and I feel like it’s one of those that laid the groundwork for future YA. The show is definitely worth watching though. I thought they did a great job of adapting it, changing what needed to be changed but keeping the most essential elements. I was scared about them mashing Six of Crows in there as well but noo, it was done so well!!
I hope you have a great time with the show!!!

      1. Isn’t “My Dark Vanessa” some sort of Lolita kind of thing? At least I heard that it has some similar themes. So yeah, it’s going to be a tough read.
And I feel the same way about “The Grisha Trilogy”! I really loved the characters but it was definitely one of those series that made YA popular and it was Leigh’s first series so she was still a raw diamond back then. Thank you for the info! I’m even more excited to watch it now!! =))

  2. Congrats on the ARCs, so cool! I’m almost halfway through Chain of Iron and LOVING it. I just got super excited for the possibility of James being on the next cover, I feel like it may also be a girl to keep with the theme of the other books…but I really hope it’s James!
