Blog, book haul

New bookmarks to go with new books!!

You know that specific kind of frustration that comes when you have work that really needs to get done but your brain is just no co-operating?? Yeah that’s me right now and if I don’t distract myself for a bit, we’re gonna spiral and nobody wants that.

And so here I am to talk not only about the books I got recently, but the bookmarks too!!

I’ve wanted to buy some bookmarks off Etsy for years now but living in Spain in a house that the postman can never find (I legit have to hunt him down) made this hard. With me now living in the UK for uni, I jumped at the chance and I was not disappointed.

Look at how freaking cute these are!! They all came in perfect condition with cute little extras that put a big fat smile on my face. I will definitely be buying more stuff from these shops in the future. If you have any Etsy shops, specifically that sell book-marks, let me know cause I’d love to check them out!!

Ok now moving onto the books …

Am I meant to be on a book-buying ban? Yes. I’ve acquired more books in the last three months then I was planning on but what’s comforting me is the fact that it could be worse.

The Atlas Six by Olivia Blake – Despite this book being out for a while, I got accepted for an ARC of this book due to it’s re-release through traditional publishing and I actually finished it last night! I still don’t really know what to make of it. Going in I didn’t know what to expect but I can now tell you that it’s Dark Academia with magic, murder and lot’s of sexual tension between characters.

Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen – I’ve heard really good things about this book and I’ve wanted to pick it up since it’s release back in 2020 so when it was part of the 99p e-book deal, I snatched that right up. It follows a girl who goes to some sort of summer programme and it’s not what she expects as the kids spend more time partying then studying. For some reason I’m getting gossip-girl vibes, not sure why but I guess I’ll see if that’s the case.

Gallant by V.E Schwab – I was in Waterstones the other day and they had signed copies of this book all over the place. SIGNED COPIES!! It took everything in me not to buy one because, “no Elli, you have a perfectly good ARC back at home”. I was shocked that I got accepted for this but I’m not gonna complain. Part of me is hoping I can squeeze this one in while we’re still in the rainy-weather season. I feel like I need a bit of real life atmosphere to read Schwabs books.

Fat Chance Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado – This is another case of wanting to read this the year it came out but holding off because I’m a tight arse. I’ve since forgotten every detail of this plot but I know it has a plus sized main character, has good reviews, and I distinctly remember being excited about it last year.

My Body by Emily Ratajkowski – 2022 is the year of me reading more non-fiction books and this one in particular interests me. It’s an autobiography/memoir from a super model and from what I can tell it’s going to focus on her relationship with her body what with her body being her career and a deep dive into being a celebrity. That really fascinates me and I can’t wait to read it!

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – Having friends apparently means being each other bad influence and buying the same book to “buddy read” but then never buddy-reading it. My friend has started this. I have not. It was on my TBR but we’re quite late in the month and I don’t think I’ll be getting to it in the next two weeks. It is a high priority though. I want to know what all the hype is about!

Terms & Conditions by Lauren Asher – I am so excited about this book. Like as soon as my essay is written (the one that I’m procrastinating writing by doing this haul) I want to dedicate an entire night to reading it. I’m fully on the side of “each the rich” and “billionaires shouldn’t exist” but fictional-billionaires don’t count. I love the first book and am hoping for just as good of a time. Besides from being excited about this, I also need to read it ASAP because Tik-Tok is trying to spoil it for me!

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston – I don’t need to say much about this one. You all know probably know about it anyways.

All Our Hidden Gifts by Caroline O’Donaghue – Pretty covers make me buy books! In this case it wasn’t even this book cover. I was in Waterstones, I saw the sequel, it looked really cool. Then, because the universe was clearly in my favour, I saw that not only was this paranormal/witchy/psychic but the e-book was on sale. E-books are going to be my downfall, I tell ya.

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le – That feeling when you’ve been pining over a book for a year and you finally have a copy of it! That’s me with this book. Once again the e-book Gods blessed me with the 99p deal. I am so ready to read more forbidden love romances with food at it’s core.

The 22 Murders of Madison May by Max Barry – I saw Reagan from Peruse Projects on Youtube talking about this and I picked up the e-book as soon as I could. She just made it sound so interesting and intriguing: a kind of murder mystery that spans alternate realities with the same girl dying over and over again. Yes please.

Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry by Joya Goffney – For the longest time I thought this was a New Adult romance! It’s not. Crazy. I am a big fan of the ugly cry, infact it’s the only type of crying I do. Anybody that can look cute while crying has talent. No clue how ugly crying is incorporated into this book but I can’t wait to find out.

I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick – I’m pretty sure this is the final book of this haul that fits into the “recent backlist book I was too cheap to buy at the time” category. This one is a YA murder mystery which I really haven’t read enough of. I feel like this one is going to be great to read around the pool this summer.

Famous Last Words by C.W Farnsworth HOCKEY ROMANCE!! Is this a genre? I don’t think it is, technically, but it should be. Sometimes I just get a vibe from a book that I’m going to love it and that’s the feeling I’m getting from this book. I’m very much looking forward to reading it. I will happily devour any and all hockey romance books.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi – I’m telling myself that this is a book for Uni. There’s a new book-club starting up and this is the first book. I’m really hoping to go to the meet up on the 31st just because I want to be more social and this seems like a good step. The weather has been super nice recently and I’m hoping that keeps going because I think going to a coffee shop next weekend or to the park and reading this would be really nice.

Beach Read by Emily Henry – I’m working on part 2 of my Grumpy/Sunshine reviews because I’m still obsessed with this trope. This is a super popular book about authors that switch genres to try and escape a writing-slump and I’m hoping to love it as much as everyone else seems to. Fingers crossed.

Verity by Colleen Hoover – This was the most recent 99p Kind deal and with the Colleen Hoover hype still being in the air, I thought why not. I think it’ll be cool to first read “If This Ends with Us” which seems to be in the same genre she usually writes in, and then this one which I’m pretty sure is a thriller.

So yeah, those are the books I’ve got recently. I also indulged in some spicy NA romance books because those are so addictive, but I’m just skipping over mentioning them here – (it is making me wonder if I should consider getting Kindle Unlimited ???)

I’d love to know your thoughts and feelings on any of these books, plus what you’ve hauled recently. Thanks for reading :))

Elli xx
