What I’ve Been Watching Recently… #7

Howdy 🤠

I should be in uni right now but instead I’m still in my pyjamas, drinking a cup of tea and doing a colouring book. I just really couldn’t sit through my morning lecture and personal development session today. Jury’s still out on if I go to my 4pm lecture.

I am getting cramp from colouring though so it’s time to take a break and instead talk about what I’ve been watching recently 🙂

The Batman

Once upon a time I said I’d never watch any new batman movies unless it was more Lego-Batman … then they cast Robert Pattinson and I caved so quickly.

This movie was so freaking. First of all, I saw it for free! My friends boyfriend works at a cinema and got us in for free. So it was already a good day but then I watched this movie and it got even better.

The cinematography! The humour! The action!! My favourite scene of the whole movie was when Battinson just yeeted out the window, had a parachute, and then flew straight into a bridge, and hobbled away. I love the aesthetic of this Batman: greasy emo. I finished watching it and immediately wanted to watch it again.

Fresh

Pro-tip: Don’t watch this while eating. That’s what I did. I ordered a Chinese, sat down with my noodles and spring rolls to watch it and then remembered what its about. I ate as much as a I could before it go to the more graphic moments because nobody needs those thoughts in their head while they’re eating.

Turning Red

“I’ve never met nobody like youuu, had friends and I’ve had buddies, it’s true. But they don’t turn my tummy, the way you do …”

This has been in my head since even before I watched this goddam movie so obviously I had to watch and yes I loved it.

Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)

I am definitely on the side of “this is Your, Mine, Ours remake” not Cheaper by the Dozen but I don’t even care. This movie is getting a bunch of hate but it was actually good!! Something easy and fun to watch that made me smile. Not everything needs to be a masterpiece.

The Fallout

I got goosebumps watching this movie. It was so good! It follows two girls who strike up a bond after going through a school shooting together. This is pegged as a “Gen-Z coming of age” movie. It’s very sad that our coming of age movie revolves around a school shooting, but it really was great.

There are some super cringey, out of touch, bits of dialogue and internet slang but then I remember that I use “lolz” unironically and also reply to everything with “fair” so maybe it’s actually really accurate and we just don’t want to admit that.

Driving Home 2 U

The Olivia Rodrigo hype might have died down a bit but this album is still a banger and I liked these new renditions of the songs. It was super cool to see behind the scenes of the albums recording, hearing about her writing process. And then it was just prettily and aesthetically filmed!

Fatherhood

I cried. We didn’t even get past the first few minutes and I was crying.

Take every pre-concieved notion you have a of Kevin Hart film at chuck it out the window. This was so emotional and heartwarming. I even pestered my mum until she watched it.

The Kid Detective

I had no expectations going into this movie. Adam Brody is the lead and I think he’s super underrated so that’s why I gave it a shot and I enjoyed it. It’s got a bit of an indy feel to it. Its basically a movie about gifted-kid burn out and not living up to your potential as it follows a guy who was a renowned kid detective and has now barely got his life together.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)]

You know when a movie is so bad that’s it’s actually good. That was this movie.

My aunts boyfriend put this on when I stayed over at their house and I must have looked like a sociopath because people were being brutally murdered and I was full on cackling! It was so bad!!

The cherry on the cake was the ending. I don’t wanna spoil anything but also I’ve spoiled this to my friends because I needed to talk about it. I needed to share how fucking ridiculous it was. I laugh just thinking about it.

The Adam Project

Ryan Reynolds essentially plays the same character in every movie but I’m not even mad about it because he does it so well. And then the kid who plays young Adam in this movie is a little legend. I finished the movie and instantly went to watch clips from the press tour. He’s hilarious and this book was better then expected.

The Broken Hearts Gallery

I was so sure that this was a book-to-movie adaptation but apparently not. Don’t know where I got that idea from.

This was a cute rom-com, wouldn’t say it’s a new favourite or anything. The main characters kind of annoyed me. BUT it’s been on my to-watch list for ages so I’m glad to be able to cross it off.

Why Him?

Another one that’s been on my to-watch list for ever. Zoey Deutch needs to star in more rom-coms and movies like this. Set It Up is one of my favourites and this movie was a lot of fun too.

The Longest Ride

I have a thing for cowboys and I’m also a big fan of Britt Robertson. Don’t judge me. Those are the only two reasons I watched this movie and I have no regrets what so ever!

Not going to lie, I forgot that I’d watched so many good things recently. I’d love to know what you’ve been watching recently, as well as your thoughts on any of these. Thanks for reading :))
