The friend zone is not the end zone for Bree Camden, who is helplessly in love with her longtime best friend and extremely hot NFL legend, Nathan Donelson. The only problem is that she can’t admit her true feelings, because he clearly sees her as a best friend with no romantic potential, and the last thing Bree wants is to ruin their relationship. But those abs . . .

Nope! Nothing but good old-fashioned, no-touching-the-sexiest-man-alive, platonic friendship for Bree. In any case, she has other things to worry about. After a car accident ended her chance at becoming a professional ballerina, Bree changed paths and now owns her own dance studio, with big dreams to expand it. But one more rent increase could mean the end of the studio entirely.

Then, as usual, Nathan comes to the rescue and buys the entire building. A stubborn Bree is not happy about it and decides to rebel with a couple–okay, maybe more than a couple–of tequila shots. Then her plan backfires as she spills her deepest, darkest secret to a TMZ reporter. One viral video later, the world thinks Nathan and Bree are the perfect couple. Before they can really talk about her confession, Nathan’s publicist proposes a big opportunity that could mean financial security for Bree. The catch? They have to pretend to be in love. For three whole weeks.

My thoughts and feelings …

One of my new top-tier tropes is himbos working together to come up with a plan to help their pal get together with the love of their life. The sheer chaos, hilarity and romance of it is a winner in my eyes.

Going into this book I thought I knew what it was about: a friends to lovers romance between a footballer and a ballerina, and in part that is exactly what I got. What I didn’t learn from Tik-Tok beforehand is that Nathan is a crazy famous footballer, the characters are mid-to-late twenties (not in college like I for some reason thought) who fake date and it features my favourite one of my favourite tropes: MUTUAL PINING! When I tell you I screamed when I realised they were both head over heels for each other.

I attempted to take notes while I was reading but only got three bullet points in before I completely forgot that I was doing this so one of the only notes I took was: “I’m 50 pages in but I would like these two to kiss already”. Yeah it took a while for that wish to come to fruition but I really liked the journey to get to that place.

To me this book is peak feel-good and fun romance story. Nathan and Bree had a lot of chemistry from page one that made it so easy to buy into their relationship. I loved seeing them already have a solid foundation of friendship, the inside jokes and just feeling comfortable around each other, with the only thing missing is taking it up one step.

I have only two complaints about this. The first being there was too many ALL CAPS. Please just say “he shouted” or “she exclaimed”. The second is that I wished we could have seen more of Bree’s dance school towards the end of the book. I feel like we learnt a decent amount about it to begin with but that kind of tapered off towards the end and I would have loved to have seen more pay off.

Overall I had a lot of fun with this book and I think if you’re looking for something quick, easy and fun which will make you smile and swoon, definitely consider checking this out.
