Mid Year Book Freak Out 2021!!

Hi, hello and welcome to my blog :))

We’ve made it six months into the year with a loss less drama and action then last year!! Yay 👏👏👏 The fact that we’ve set the bar so low that “not as bad as 2020” is as good as it gets is quite sad 😂

My reading goal for the year was 40 books and I’m thrilled to say I not only reached that goal but surpassed it because as of right now I have read 51 books!!

The only real goals I set myself for the year were in regards to starting, continuing and finishing certain series. So far I’ve only made progress with starting series which kind of defeats the purpose of the goal but oh well.

I’ve re-read a lot more books then I was planning to this year (Heroes of Olympus, Night Owls and Shadow & Bone for starters). I also spontaneously binged a few series (Off Campus and The Vampire Academy) so part of me feels like I don’t have many exciting books to talk about but we’ll see how this goes.

2019 // 2020

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2021

I held off doing this tag purely for this question. For the most part I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read this year but there’s not really been any standouts. That was until: If This Get’s Out by Sophie Gonzales & Cale Dietrich.

I have a full review coming soon but to summarise: this book follows two members of a world famous boy-band who fall in love.

This book made me so freakin’ happy and I genuinely couldn’t put it down!!

The Mystery Blogger Award #3

Hello and hi.

I’ve forgotten how to do intros. That happens sometimes. I sit down to write and my mind goes ✨blank✨ so that’s fun. Let’s pretend I was capable and qualified and just get straight down to business.

Recently I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Tag not once, but twice by both Virginia @ The Sassy Library Fox and also, Jan @ The Doodle Crafter. Thank you both so much 🖤🖤

This award was originally created by Okoto @ Okoto Enigma’s Blog.

Three Facts About Me:

  • I used to write fanfiction on Wattpad when I was 12/13. I actually checked on my account the other day, and people are still commenting (and correcting my terrible spelling and grammar 😭). One of my fics has 111K views lol
  • I dyed my hair mermaid red for about a year and loved it but the upkeep was too much.
  • When I was a kid I wanted to be a tiger/lion. Like that was my answer to “hey Elli, what do you want to be when you grow up”. I have photographic proof.

Virginia’s Questions

🏵If you could only take three things to a deserted island, what would you take with you?🏵

  • My cat. I feel like he’d be ok with the isolation but I’d need someone to talk to.
  • The entire Throne of Glass series. No way am I surviving on a deserted island but I’ve always said I will finish this series before I die so I’ll read them on the island, and then use the books to keep my fire alight.
  • A knife? I feel like that’s logical.

🏵What is your favourite flower?🏵

🌼🌻🌼🌻🌼

Sunflowers and daisies.

I got my drivers licence yesterday so … Sour Album – Olivia Rodrigo Book Tag!!

Howdy and hello🤠😊

One of my goals for this year was to get my drivers licence and I DID IT!! I can now drive a car. This is exciting but also terrifying. For one thing, how the hell am I old enough to drive? and for another who in their right mind let me be in charge of a vehicle!?!?

So I started the whole drivers licence process last summer, around late June/early August, I did my theory test in September and by the grace of God and I passed first time. Then came the tricky bit … the actual driving. I think it’s safe to say I was not a natural driver. Vin Diesel would not be proud of me.

I failed my first driving test. The worst thing about this is that I was in the car for about 2 minutes before failing. I spent longer sorting my seat and mirrors then I did driving 😂😭

Anyways, before failing this first test, Drivers Licence by Olivia Rodrigo had just dropped and I was planning on belting that song from the rooftops after passing. This didn’t happen but now that I passed yesterday it’s the perfect time to not only scream this song at the top of my lungs, but also to do the Sour Album book tag!

This tag tas created by Ashmita @ the Fictional Journal and I found the tag on Lauren @ Narrative Paradise’s blog so make sure you check out their posts too!

(I’ve been obsessed with this album since it’s release and this seems like the perfect segway into doing the tag lol)

Books I Want to Read But Don’t Want to Read Tag!

Howdy-doodle people 😊🤠

Today I come to you with a headache but also a book tag that I have been meaning to do for months now. I was tagged by the amazing Meghan @ Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews to do the Books I Want to Read but Don’t Want to Read tag … all the way back in January.

Time is a social construct. How the hell is it almost July?? Anyways, thank you so much for tagging me Meghan, sorry it took me so long.

Before that though, I just want to say a massive thank you for 400 followers 🖤🖤🖤

The Rules:

  • Link back to the original tag (this post, and Jami!)
  • Complete the questions with books you want to have read but don’t want to read
  • Tag some people at the end to do the tag next

A book that you feel you need to read because everyone talks about it.

I have two answers for this question. One is a book that I say every single time for a question like this, another is a more recent release. We’ll start with the recent release just to ✨spice✨ things up a lil.

I have seen nothing but high praise and love for The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J Klune and, especially because I loved Klune’s YA novel, I need to get my hands on it and see what it’s all about. I have a vague idea of the synopsis: magical orphans or something like that.

The only reason I haven’t read this book yet is because I can’t find an affordable copy. Every format of this book is out of my price-range 😂 One day I’ll read it though.

🌸The Spring Cleaning Book Tag🌸

It’s spring and by god are my allergies back with a vengeance. We went up to the countryside last week and I had to take antihistamine tablets and paracetamol when I got home, just to get through work that night. 🥴🤧

Anyways, enough about my sneezing, it’s time for a tag! Today to celebrate (or maybe commiserate) Spring, I’m doing the Spring Cleaning Tag!!

The struggle to get started // A book or series you struggle to begin because of it’s size.

My first instinct is to say The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore because this bad boi is 700+ pages long.

Back during lockdown, I got super into Russian history, specifically the Romanov family. I watched a bunch of documentaries and so when I saw Reagan @ Peruse Project on Youtube talk about this book I knew I needed it in my life.

A year later and I’m still really interested in learning more about this subject and do still want to read this book, I’m just scared because this book is BIG and the words are very smallll.

The Outstanding Blogger Award #2

Hi and howdy, welcome to my blog.

I’ve just woken up from a nap and oh my god I’m feeling so out of it! I never sleep in the day time, I mean it’s hard enough to sleep at night, but I’m fighting a cold and a killer sore throat at the minute and I accidently dosed off after making my cup of tea. R.I.P the cup of tea that I didn’t even get to have a sip of 😪

To try and shake myself out of this weird funk I’m in right now, I’m going to be doing the Outstanding Blogger Award which I was kindly nominated for by Daria @ Bookaholic’s Therapy! Thank you Daria for the nomination 🖤

Rules:

  • Provide the link to the creator’s original award post.
  • Answer the questions provided.
  • Create 7 unique questions.
  • Nominate 10 bloggers. Ensure that they are aware of their nomination. Neither the award’s creator nor the blogger that nominated you can be nominated.

🌼What is a book you really want to get to in 2021?🌼

Like a Love Story by Adbi Nazemian. I’ve been saying I’m going to read this book for the last two years but I swear, 2021 will be the year I read this book, cover to cover!

I’m scared of this book and the emotions it’s gonna stir up inside of me so that’s why I haven’t read it yet, I’m scared of feeling things.

I seriously need to face my fears though because I have such high expectations for this one!

The Evermore Book Tag!

Heyy … how y’all doin. (If you didn’t read that in the voice of the tik-tok sound then congratulations. I do not have that talent and now that one line is playing on repeat in my brain).

Today I am doing a tag that I’ve been wanting to do for ages but just haven’t for reasons. The tag in question is The Evermore Book Tag created by Ahaana @ Windows to Worlds who kindly tagged me :)) Thank you 🖤

I’ve always liked Taylor Swift but I was a casual “sing along to the radio£ fan but since the release of Folklore and Evermore I’ve become a full on Swiftie. No shame. I listen to these two albums on repeat much to the annoyance of my mother.

You don’t care but just to have it out there my favourite Folklore songs are: Exile and The Last Great American Dynasty. I did the tag for this album when it came out too so you can read that HERE!!

I think out of the two Evermore is my favourite though. My go to songs are: Gold Rush, Tis the Damn Season, Happiness and No Body, No Crime. Now that you know that, let’s crack on with the tag!!

willow // a book with a character you can’t help but fall in love with

I was really stuck on this question for a long while but I’m going with the character from my current read: Alina Starkov. She is probably my favourite female YA Fantasy character. She’s so sweet and witty and easy to root for. I’m currently nearly 100 pages into the second Siege and Storm and there’s still not been any point where she’s annoyed me which is maybe a record.

Percy Jackson is also a character I couldn’t help but fall in love with right off the bat but I feel like picking him would be a bit obvious.

Books as First Dates Book Tag!

Hey, hey! Happy Monday.

It’s actually Friday for me. I’m coming off a busy week into a not very chill weekend and then going headfirst into an even busier week so I’m taking what little time I have to relax. Despite knowing that I need this time to re-charge I feel guilty about not studying so I’m being pro-active and getting ahead on this weeks posts.

Yesterday was Valentines day. I still think it’s a very commercial holiday but I’m here for the content opportunities it brings and so I’ll be doing the Books as First Dates Tag!

I don’t know how romance heavy this tag is going to be, the amazing Daria @ Bookaholic’s Therapy tagged me for this back in September but first dates = romance in my brain so I was saving it for this specific occasion.

Big thank you to Daria for the tag, sorry it took me so long to get around to it 🖤

First and last: a book // A Series you’ve read and enjoyed but can’t bring yourself to read again.

I am not a fan of Sci-fi in any way shape or form. Not books, not movies, not TV shows. Nothing. And yet in 2017 I read Starflight by Melissa Landers and loved it.

I barely even remember what it’s about but I liked that it had a childhood enemies to lovers romance element, it had space-pirates, I think (tbh I might totally be making that up).

Even though I have no idea what happened, I want to keep the happy “I loved a sci-fi book” vibes going so I doubt I’ll ever read this again. I should probably un-haul it but the covers really pretty.

🌸What is the TV show or movie that you have re-watched the most?🌸

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched Teen Wolf. It’s been my comfort show since I was twelve and I plan on watching it over until I’m grey and old.

My friend has actually started watching it for the first time and is now very concerned about me because he tells me what’s just happened and then I go an quote the entire next scene.

I’m the worst blogger ever // Blogger Award round up.

Hellooo 😊

I am the worst blogger ever and I’m sorry. I have a bunch of awards that I’ve been tagged in over not so recent months and I feel really guilty and also kind of anxious about the fact that I haven’t gotten around to doing them yet.

I love being tagged for things, I really do, but I started getting anxious over random things, there was no rhyme or reason to it, and the longer I left them the worse I felt.

It’s a new year, new beginning and all that, so I decided to answer everything in one and wipe the slate clean and so today I’m going to be combining the four awards I was nominated for in 2020 that I didn’t get to into one post for the sake of my sanity :))
