Opening Lines // Top 5 Tuesday

aaaa

Hellooo πŸ™‚ So lockdown was officially lifted here in Spain (for the most part) and as of yesterday my province is finally in phase 1 meaning bars and restaurants are aloud to open which is exciting. I am surrounded by bars where I live and so after two months of dead silence it’s super weird to hear so many people outside.

Anyways today I am back for another round of Top 5 Tuesday. I skipped last week because I was totally stumped. This weeks topic is Top 5 Opening Liners. I just spent the last ten minutes opening up all the books in my room so let’s get started.

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm

The Stay Home Book Tag

And once again my procrastination has come back to haunt me πŸ˜‚ It’s nearly midnight and I still haven’t done my homework or written today’s post.

Could I do these things tomorrow morning? Yes, but I like sleep and I know that no matter how hard I try I’m not going to wake up early and be productive so here I am.

Today I’m going to be doing the Stay Home Book Tag which was originally created by Princess of Paperback. I’ve seen this tag all over recently and I am still stuck at home thanks to Spanish lockdown so that’s what I’m going to be doing today.

Laying In Bed: A book you read in one day.

sleepy

The most recent book I read in one day was The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith not because I liked it but because I had to write a report on it and I left it till the last minute so I knocked it out and got it out of the way with in one day.

Another book I did like and read in one day was The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman. Technically I read the first chapter the night before but that was just testing the waters before falling asleep so it counts. Continue reading “The Stay Home Book Tag”

My favourite reads of 2019!

Hi, hey, hello and welcome to my blog πŸ™‚

So yesterday I talked all about my least favourite reads of 2019(which I stupidly titled 2020 and only just realised my mistake because I’m an idiot) and I really went to town on them. Today however is a positive vibes only zone as I’m going to be talking about the best of the bunch. giphy

I read 83 books this year, completely surpassing my intended goal of 60. I’m actually currently reading 2 more, one of which I plan on finishing as soon as I’m done writing this post, and yet I’ve got 9 books to talk about today.

My criteria for picking my “favourites” is based solely off of pure enjoyment. I’ve chosen books which, even all these months later, I’m still thinking about, I’m still excited about and overall I’m’ still in love with.

Any and all book reviews I’ve written this year can all be found HERE.

And finally before I start I just want to say that these are in chronological of when I read them and not by rank or rating or anything like that πŸ™‚

black-and-white-flowers-tumblr-transparent-12Queen of Air & Darkness by Cassandra Clare

9781471116704Queen of Air & Darkness was the second book I read this year and although it’s an absolute beast of a book I flew through it in just 3 days!

Yes some of the plot decisions were … odd and questionable *cough* Thule. Angelic Giants *cough* but I can’t deny that I had a great time reading.

This book made me feel so much. I sobbed in the beginning for about five chapters straight and that was just the beginning of my tears as the story progressed. I came to love so many new characters with this trilogy and I’m cautiously anticipating future instalments of this universe. Continue reading “My favourite reads of 2019!”

β˜€Top 5 Books I Read this Summerβ˜€

Hi, hey, hello and welcome to my blog πŸ™‚

Guess who just got back from the dentist and was stupid enough to not eat beforehand and so is now starving!!!! ME :))) Yep.

And so to distract myself from my hunger I thought I’d talk about My Favourite Books I Read This Summer!

Summer has never before been my favourite season, for the most part because I’m as pale as a vampire (to the point where my old citizenship teacher asked if I was a ghost) so the burning hot ball in the sky and I don’t get on all that much.

However I’ve actually had a great time this past summer and in the past three months, June, July and August, I’ve read some really great books.

1- Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer

I was still in school when I read this and the boy who sits next to me, the only other English boy who could possibly understand what I was reading, kept looking over at the worst time. Usually when limbs were being dismembered. He was very worried about me. Continue reading “β˜€Top 5 Books I Read this Summerβ˜€”

The “Get to Know Me” Book Tag // My 1 Year Blogger-versary!!!

Hi, hello and welcome to my blog!

Today is a day of celebration. It’s been a whole year since I started this blog.

celebration.gif

It’s my bloggerversary and I’m probably spelling that extremely wrong but I feel like terrible spelling is a staple of my blogposts. To celebrate it being a year of me being annoying as hell I decided to do the “Get to know me” Book Tag because in the beginning I never really talked about myself because anxiety πŸ™‚

A little bit about me

My names Elli. I’m 17 and originally from East Yorkshire with the accent to prove it but I’ve been living in Spain since I was ten (although I do not have the tan to prove that). This September I start the Spanish equivalent of 6th form and I am shitting myself.

I have three siblings, two brothers and a sister, all younger, two of which live back in the UK. I also have three pets who I would die for: Fudge, Poppet and Kit-Kat.

And now that you’ve been blessed with these incredible and majestic photos let’s jump into the tag: Continue reading “The “Get to Know Me” Book Tag // My 1 Year Blogger-versary!!!”

The BW Mid Year Tag

Hello and welcome to my blog πŸ™‚

I am currently in a strange stage of nervous but not nervous because I start my new job tonight and I don’t know how to feel. On one hand I’m excited because I’ve done bar work before, I’ve known the owner for years and she’s the one that offered me the job but on the other hand I cant stop overthinking it.

And so I figured that to take my mind off of it I would finaly getting around to doing The BW Mid Year Tag which I was tagged to do byΒ Β Virginia @ The Sassy Library Fox so big thanks to Virginia πŸ™‚

✨Where are you on your Goodreads Challenge? Ahead or Behind? ✨

As of 2am last night I have officially completed my Goodreads 2019 Reading Challenge!!! There was digital confetti and everything. It was a magical moment.

I set my goal for the year at 60 books and I have no idea how I’ve already read that many but I am thrilled because school starts soon and I have a feeling it’s gonna be crazy and reading’s gonna have to take the backseat for a while.

The Summer Bucket List Book Tag

Hello and welcome to my blog!

Today I’m going to be doing The Summer Bucket List Book Tag. I wasn’t tagged to do this but I saw The Sassy Library Fox do this tag and it looked really fun so here I am πŸ™‚

All I’ve done so far this summer is sleep a lot, eat a lot and read a lot. All fun for me personally but not very interesting so I’m living vicariously through this tag.

This tag was originally created by Read by Tiffany.Β

  • I was scared for a minute there that I didn’t have a book to fit this which, considering it’s the first question, would not be a good start but then I remembered: Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman. I wasn’t madly in love with this book mainly due to the writing but this does take place in Hawaii with many beach/surfing scenes.

June Wrap Up

Hey. Hi. Hello! Welcome to my blog and happy July!

Like wow isn’t that crazy? I’m planning on reading a whole lot this July and taking full advantage of my time off but before I get ahead of myself I’m going to be talking about the 11 books I read this month.

Yeah I finished a whole 11 books this month. I don’t exactly know how since June was a month filled with exams but I’m not complaining.

  • Superior by Jessica Lack– I kicked off pride month with a super cute short story following a superhero’s intern and a supervillains apprentice. It was absolutely adorable and a great fast read that helped me relax through exam stress I just really wish it had been longer. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • The Silver Mask by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare- This is book number 4 in the Magisterium trilogy and although I enjoy this series when reading I am finding that it’s a pretty average read unfortunately. Only 1 book to go though. ⭐⭐⭐
  • History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera I’m really sad to say that me and this book just did not mesh. On one hand I love the representation and the fact that these characters do have faults and aren’t perfect but really I just didn’t connect with this book which left me really disappointed especially since this book is so hyped. ⭐⭐

Mid Year Book Freak-Out Tag!

Hello and welcome to my blog!

So far this year my reading is going really well. I’ve somehow managed to read 47 books this year while also keeping up with school work. I’m very proud of this.

Absolutely everybody has been doing the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag recently and of course I’m jumping on that bandwagon too. This tag looks really fun and I’m excited to look back at what I’ve read.

🌟Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2019🌟

untitled

I genuinely did try to pick something different for this question but this really has been the best book I’ve read so far this year. It was funny yet also emotional with a nice amount of political commentary that I enjoyed. I’ve had to stop myself from re-reading this multiple times. It definitely deserves the hype. My Review.Β

🌟Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2019 🌟

untitled

To be honest I’ve barely read any sequels this year. I really need to get on that. But definitely out of the few that I’ve read my favourite was Crooked Kingdom. I’m annoyed it took me so long to read this series and I’m dying for new content from these characters. My Review Continue reading “Mid Year Book Freak-Out Tag!”
